What Being a Queer Doula Means to Me

I am very grateful to be practicing as a queer doula in Asheville. We have such a loving and supportive city (for the most part) and it’s a joy to have the ability to practice and provide doula care in the way that feels most authentic for me!

“Queer liberation starts with queer community care.” -Anna Balagtas (she/siya)

In being a queer doula, I try to approach my work from an intersectional and reproductive justice framework. I understand that each individual has had a different and unique journey to where they are now. I want to meet you where you are, and provide support in the ways you need.

My values include the following:

I support: Queer families, blended families, single parents, adoptive parents, poly families, all families.

I celebrate: All gender expressions

I affirm: Fat bodies

I uplift: Sex-workers

I protect: Trans families

I believe: Black lives matter

I uphold: Abortion is healthcare

I do not tolerate:

-Transphobia, bi-phobia, racism, sexism, ableism, classism.

As you learn more about birth support options in Asheville, if you’re looking for radical support, if you feel aligned with my values, if you’re queer in any way- sexuality, belief system, feel that nature is queer, or desire to queer the constructs in your life, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
